Featured Designer:Korto Momolu

Korto Momolu is a well-known fashion designer here in Arkansas and definately one to be proud of. You may know her best from the 2008, 5th season, of Project Runway. She showed her 2009 collection at New York Fashion Week and became Project Runway's 2008 1st runner-up. She has been designing for over 15 years and is originally from Liberia. She now resides with her husband and daughter in Little Rock, Arkansas where November 13th was officially declared Korto Momolu-Briggs Day. Momolu's designs are sleek and fresh and Momolu has been quoted as saying she considers herself an artist first, but fashion design has been her primary goal since high school, where her art teacher suggested she try it. She got a crash course in sewing from her aunt and polished her skills in college where her instructors showed her no mercy using public humiliation as a teaching tool.

"I was terrible," she said. "Every week in sewing class they would literally rip the clothes off you. Every single week I'd get my stuff ripped up."

Well, no one is ripping anything of hers now including Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, whom she has custom designed for. You can follow this link to Korto Momolu's official website: http://www.kortomomolu.com/korto.html
